Feedback from Students

I reflect on feedback from students by categorizing comments as positive, constructive & actionable, constructive but not actionable, and irrelevant. I use formative assessments on a daily basis in class to get feedback that helps me plan upcoming lessons. I also collect feedback at the end of the semester, which I use for thinking about my teaching practices and course content on a broader scale.

Guest Teaching in BIOL 100 Lecture

Fall 2021

As part of my Graduate Certificate in College Teaching I completed a guest teaching assignment in a lecture course. I taught four class sessions of a biology class for non-majors.

After my guest teaching, students were asked:

"What helped you learn on the days when Madeline taught?"

Comments from students included:

"She made the class more interactive with activities and google forms rather than just simply lecture at her students."

"Madeline was more hands on and was constantly ensuring that students were understanding the material as well as participating with the class."

End-of-the-semester comments from students included:

"The lab was very organized and Madeline did a great job at helping to explain things and teach us the material."

"Madeline engaged a lot and was always very helpful when answering questions."

In response to being asked what aspect of the class was the most helpful for their learning, students responded:

"The writing assignments"

"The team aspect was incredibly helpful. I liked conversing and working with others."

"The instructor was excellent."
